Can’t Run in Hoof Boots?

This video was taken using a “Girth cam”, strapped to the horse’s underside. Many horse owners worry that their horse will not be able to move naturally or very fast while wearing boots, but here we see that a horse can at least canter while wearing EasyCare hoof boots (and this animal maintains a very even pace, too!)

Ojai Quarterly Asks: Is Ojai Still Horse Country?

It’s a fair question from the magazine, since most anyone who visits from many years away or who’s lived here a long time can tell you that horses aren’t as present a part of the everyday city-scape as they used to be. Still, rough estimates run at almost 3,000 horses living in the Ojai Valley, although many people cite a changed culture (read: more car-friendly) as reason for their rare appearances.

The Thacher and Ojai Valley schools still feature their well-known equestrian programs; Corral 57, the local branch of Equestrian Trails, Inc., still sponsors regular horse shows and gymkhanas in Soule Park; and the valley’s many riding trails get plenty of use.
